The biggest companies will effectively try and carve out and entire segment of the industry for themselves. If a site appears at the top of the first page for a wide range of relevant search terms, that is almost like having a monopoly in this day and age.

Many large corporations will spend enormous sums on search engine optimization.Smaller firms cannot hope to compete with the biggest players overall, but that isn’t to say they can’t get good results from their search engine optimization. Smaller businesses are far better off trying to find a niche for themselves. Rather than trying to rank for very competitive search terms, SEO for a small business is more about trying to identify more specific word or phrases that will be used when people search.

Sometimes SEO is About the Low Hanging Fruit

People entering very specific search terms will generally have very specific aims as well. A very targeted phrase may not be searched so often, but that means few people will be optimizing for it. Often, ranking for longer, more specific search terms means you are more likely to make a sale.

The MLM Fake Out

The old saying “fake it until you make it” shouldn’t be practiced in anything, especially in the MLM industry. I’m approached continually by people who make certain claims about their income, experience and business building prowess. After 20 years in this industry, I can sniff out an un-truth or exaggeration pretty fast. Instead of coming clean and telling people the 100% truth, people attempt to trick people into joining them. Do these people even realize that they will be discovered once their new prospect signs up with them?

The truth shall set you free my friend and sharing your journey to success is what this is all about. Do you realize that 100% of the people who don’t quit this industry are successful? Let me say this again, 100% of the people who actively work their businesses for 5 years and don’t quit are successful enough to earn a 6 figure income. No other industry can make this claim so stop telling stories that aren’t true and get to work!

This isn’t about YOU. Understand something, people don’t join you because you are making a bunch of money and are very successful, they join you because they believe that you care enough about them to help them to make money and become successful. They join you because you care about them and guess who they are about? Them!!! Show people that you genuinely care and they will join you.

How do people expect anyone to join them when all they talk about is themselves and what they are doing? I had a person approach me some time ago and after listening to them babble on and on about their company, products and how much money their upline was making I had to stop the madness, cut them off and say “no thanks”. First of all, I have no interest in joining any other company, I’ve found the “one” and it took me nearly 20 years to do it. Secondly, even if I was looking I wouldn’t join a person who didn’t have my interest in mind and this person never once asked me a question. How about this one, “Would you be open to taking a look as at a side project” or “are you open to additional income options”? Ask before you proceed and save yourself some time.

The bottom line is that you need to be honest and truthful from the very beginning and always consider the needs of your prospect. Find a need that your opportunity can fill and you’ll be wildly successful, just make sure that your opportunity is worthy of your efforts.

If you are building or trying to build your business online, the first place that you need to start is with a blog. Why a blog? Because you need to be noticed and a blog is the best way to get noticed. Getting noticed will drive traffic, traffic creates leads and leads create income. But just hold on a minute, not just any old blog will do. You need to understand something, the internet is like the ocean, it’s vast and full of life and unless your blog is done right you are just a single celled plankton floating around the ocean with the tides.

First thing is that you need the correct format and Google has favorites. WordPress is the absolute best not only because of Google, but because of the wide array of incredible plugins available to make your blog work better for you and look very cool for your visitors. If you’re going to build your own wordpress blog you had better make sure that you get it from wordpress.org and not the .com version.

The second thing is that you need is to host your blog yourself and not rely on the free version from wordpress, because you won’t get the traffic that you need to succeed. You want a hosting company that’s reasonable with great tech support and in my opinion the only choice is HostGator. Their tech team in nothing short of incredible and they are willing and able to do anything to get your issue solved. You can get HostGator right here.

You also need a name for your blog and believe me it doesn’t need to be fancy. One thing that it should include is your name, because the whole reason for your blog is to brand “you”. Once you’ve got a name in mind you need to visit GoDaddy to see if that name is available in if so, buy it! Make sure to buy a dot com name, they are the most popular and that’s what most people assume when they type in a web address. A dot com name will cost you around $11 a year when you buy a year at a time, a little less when you buy it for longer.

So here are the steps so far, in order.

1) Buy a domain name at GoDaddy

2) Get your own web hosting from HostGator for as little as $4.95 a month for a single domain.

3) Download a wordpress format from WordPress.org and then upload it to you HostGator account. This can be done within your HostGator C panel.

4) Now it’s time to install the correct Plugins to make your blog work properly, look cool and most of all SEO or Search Engine Optimize it. This part is a little tricky and isn’t easy for a new person who’s never worked with a wordpress blog before. I’m going to have a list of plugins and widgets here at a later date for you to use when building your blog.

There is an easier way though…

You can get a blog, completely built for you and SEO optimized, containing the majority of the plugins that you need to get up and ranking on the search engines for FREE. Yup, that’s right it’s 100% FREE because they like you! Not really, but they’ll do it for free because if you get your web hosting through them with HostGator, then HostGator actually pays them for your blog, is that the coolest thing ever? Ok, so what if you already have web hosting, well then it’s going to cost you a whole $37 to get your blog built. Come on people, are you serious, do you have any idea how long it takes to build your blog? Well, it will take you a looooong time, but these guys will have it up and ready in the blink of an eye. GET YOURS HERE

So you have a choice, build your own blog and take days or even weeks to get it right OR, let these guys get you up and running fast so that you can start building your brand and generating income.
