FACT: THIS KILLS MORE PEOPLE EACH YEAR THAN HEART DISEASE.
Everyone talks about it, most want it and strive for it but the fact is…it is a killer! Think about this for a minute. How many people on this earth could benefit from making more money than they currently earn? Probably a vast majority of the global population, right? Do you believe that there are people who are stressed out and trying to make more money? Of course there are.
Stress kills, but in this article I am not talking about stress. There is something far worse than stress that is killing people each and every minute of every day. This is a sneaky and silent killer that most people literally dream about having. This killer is in fact, COMFORTABLE.
If there is one thing that I have noticed over the years, is that the vast majority of successful people were are one time, very uncomfortable. You’ve heard the stories of homelessness, alcoholism, drug addiction, poor, roofs leaking during a rain, cars not worth the gas being put in them, illnesses holding someone down. What’s really sad is that even though these things sound devastating, many people choose to be comfortable within them. The difference though is, most successful people eventually became uncomfortable and made a decision to change their situation.
Being comfortable is relative to the situation your in and this is why it is so dangerous. Years ago when I was in the Amway business, I listened to a tape recording of Dave Servern speaking at an event. The title of this talk was called “Pigs Don’t Know Pigs Stink”. Yes, the title sounds a bit crude, but what it really meant was that people tend to become comfortable no matter how bad the situation might look to other people.
The guy who is living in the trailer park becomes comfortable in his surroundings because he is there every day and this is his environment. The Smith family living 5 miles from there in a 1000 sq. ft. home view the trailer park as the worst possible place on earth to live while the Jones family, who live on the other side of town in a 6500 sq. ft. home view the Smith’s home as most uncomfortable and the trailer as completely unfit to inhabit.
Unfortunately, the fellow in the trailer park and the Smith’s can’t visualize themselves living in a 6500 sq. ft. home like the Jones family does. It’s just not a possibility in their eyes. The issue here isn’t social economic status, the issue here is belief. If you don’t believe that you can have something or achieve something great, you’ll never accomplish it. This is when the danger begins, you then become “comfortable” in your own surroundings and your dream essentially dies. Your life is now comfortable… mediocre, but comfortable.
Comfort is something that people who are continually successful never allow themselves to feel. Oh sure, they might know that they aren’t worrying about paying the electric bill next month or how much they spend on groceries. They just don’t allow themselves to feel like they have arrived and then sit back and do nothing.
So my question to you is… “Are you comfortable?” If you answered “yes”, then you might have just found the reason why you haven’t been able to succeed in the way that you know you should. My next questions is… “Are you ready to change that and get uncomfortable?”
I love to help people to get uncomfortable. It brings me joy to get someone off the recliner, have them take a hard look around and show them what they need to do to change their future. If you are one of those people who are currently comfortable, but know that you need to get uncomfortable, I can point you in the right direction and even help you.
